Meanwhile, the virus is spreading, the danger is growing, and our health systems, economies and day-to-day lives are being severely tested.

The most vulnerable are the most affected—particularly our elderly and those with pre-existing medical conditions, those without access to reliable health care, and those in poverty or living on the edge.

UNRISD is the latest addition to the UN Bonn Campus

The UN Bonn Campus continues to grow. The United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) has taken up its duties in Bonn, making it the 22nd UN organisation on the UN Bonn Campus. The institute was welcomed by Lord Mayor Ashok Sridharan and Ambassador Jutta Schmitz, head of the Liaison Office of the German Foreign Office to the UN Campus.

Panel of External Auditors Holds 60th Meeting at UN Bonn

This year's International Day For the Elimination of Violence Against Women was themed "Orange the World: Generation Equality is against rape". To signal the ending of violence against women, UN Women has launched the campaign "Orange Your City". The campaign shows support for women affected by violence.

30 Years Since the Fall of the Berlin Wall

30 years ago today, the Berlin Wall fell. This had worldwide effects, including on the city of Bonn and the United Nations. With the reunification of the two German states in October 1990, the 17-year dual membership of Germany in the United Nations ended, creating entirely new conditions for the German UN policy and the UN location Bonn.

UN Bonn celebrates UN Day at the Bonn Market Square

Today 20 UN Bonn organisations, the German Foreign Ministry and other NGOs celebrated the annual UN Day at the Bonn Market Square in front of the Old Town Hall.

UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being. 24 October has been celebrated as the United Nations Day since 1948.

Opening of the re-designed Lobby of Langer Eugen

On 28 May, the newly designed lobby of Langer Eugen was officially inaugurated. More than 300 people attended the event, including UN Bonn staff and partners from the Government of Germany, the media and civil society. Dr. Shyamal Majumdar, Chair of the Heads of Agencies Forum in Germany, welcomed the visitors and stated that “the new lobby makes UN Bonn a real hub for sustainability” by showcasing the varied but interlinked work of all resident UN entities in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
