United Nations Volunteers Programme
( UNV )

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme provides global citizens with an opportunity to volunteer across the three pillars of the United Nations system: development; peace and security; and human rights. Administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UNV advocates for the recognition of volunteers, works with partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and helps to mobilize volunteers throughout the world.

Every year, over 12,000 UN Volunteers representing about 180 nationalities support UN peace and development initiatives in more than 160 countries worldwide. Additionally, some 10,000 Online Volunteers contribute their time over the internet to support the UN system through various innovative online assignments – such as data analysis, solar labelling, graphic design, video editing, mapping, and translation in UN languages, among many others.

UNV engages the United Nations system, Member States, civil society and the private sector to promote volunteerism and the Sustainable Development Goals.
