Launch of the Human Development Report 2019

On Friday, 31 January 2020, the Human Development Report 2019 will be launched in Bonn. The lead author of the report, Pedro Conceição, together with Toily Kurbanov, Deputy Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Volunteer Programme and Andreas Proksch, Director General of the Sector and Global Programme, GIZ will present the essential finding of the Human Development Report 2019.

This year’s report deals with inequalities in the 21st Century and how they weaken social cohesion and economic growth, as well as they damage people’s trust in government institutions and in each other. When taken to extremes, inequalities bring people onto the streets. Under the theme “Beyond income, beyond averages, beyond today: Inequalities in human development in the 21st century” the report presents analysis, ideas and policy options to tackle inequality’s drivers, recognizing that many inequalities are the symptom of an unfair system rather the cause.

Subsequently to the presentation there will be an interactive panel discussion as well as a session how inequality is affecting people and communities on the ground.
