Sustainability exhibition „Examples to follow“ opened in Bonn
In the former building of VHS in Bonn, curator Adrienne Goehler yesterday inaugurated the exhibition “Examples to follow”. The exhibition, which deals with the conjunction of sustainability and aesthetics, was jointly organized by „Stiftung zu Fragen der Zeit“, Engagement Global, German Development Institute (GDI) and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN Germany).
The traveling exhibition which was previously shown in India, Ethiopia, China, Mexico, Peru and Chile features artistic practices that connect experiences and working methods of environmental initiatives with artistic approaches. The exhibition illustrates which responses art can provide to global challenges such as climate change.
Besides the classical three dimensions of sustainability – economical, ecological, social – the exhibition focuses on the cultural dimension. It deals with several future challenges of sustainability like climate change or water pollution and makes them visible.
In her opening speech Goehler stressed the importance of cultural engagement with the topic of sustainability: ”We cannot leave the world to experts (…). We need broader participation.”
As UN-Bonn representative, Patrick van Weerelt, Head of Office at the UNSSC Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development, thanked the organizers of the exhibition and emphasized that sustainability should not remain a technical matter.
The exhibition will be open until June 10th.
