UNRISD

UNRISD is the latest addition to the UN Bonn Campus

The UN Bonn Campus continues to grow. The United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) has taken up its duties in Bonn, making it the 22nd UN organisation on the UN Bonn Campus. The institute was welcomed by Lord Mayor Ashok Sridharan and Ambassador Jutta Schmitz, head of the Liaison Office of the German Foreign Office to the UN Campus.

The United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) was established in 1963 as an autonomous research institute within the UN system that undertakes interdisciplinary research and policy analysis on the social dimensions of contemporary development issues. It works together with a global network of researchers, civil society and policy makers in developing countries, with the goal of placing justice, inclusion and equality at the centre of international debates surrounding development policy.

The institute’s research and policy analyses are an important contribution to the achievement of Agenda 2030 for sustainable development and the 17 sustainable development goals. The focus of UNRISD’s researchers lies on the social dimensions of sustainable development, social policy and gender.

The UNRISD office in Bonn will be led by Isabell Kempf, who was previously Co-Director of the Poverty-Environment Initiative in Nairobi.
