UN SDG Action Campaign launches 2020 edition of SDG Global Festival of Action
At a launch event at their new offices in Bonn, the UN SDG Action Campaign announced the 2020 edition of the SDG Global Festival of Action to take place at the World Conference Centre Bonn (WCCB) in Germany from 1 to 3 April.
The 4th edition of the festival comes at a critical time, as it marks the beginning of the Decade of Action to reach the SDGs by 2030. It is powered by the UN SDG Action Campaign with the support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Federal Foreign Office and other partners.
Marina Ponti, Director of the UN SDG Action Campaign underlined that there is an urgent need to accelerate progress towards the SDGs in the coming 10 years. She announced that “the 2020 festival edition will put a spotlight on local and innovative action and initiatives that can lead to transformative change for the Sustainable Development Goals”.
The SDG Action Campaign presented the SDG Butterfly Effect. “Through the initiative, individuals can make their specific commitments for the SDGs visible on- and offline, inspiring others and starting a global butterfly effect”. The initiative was officially launched by the Deputy Secretary-General at the UN General Assembly in September 2019. Its first implementation phase will last one year and culminate at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo in August 2020.

The UN SDG Action Campaign was launched in 2016 as a special inter-agency initiative. The Campaign’s vision is a world in which everyone, everywhere has the knowledge and power to strive for their dreams and aspirations. The Campaign’s mission is to scale up, broaden and sustain the global movement of action for the Sustainable Development Goals, by providing strategies and tools to create an informed, dynamic and inspired constituency, with a special focus on mobilizing young people for the SDGs.
