UN Bonn launches Photo Exhibition at Haus der Bildung in Bonn

Today the photo exhibition "People on the Move – a Global History" will be launched at 6.30 pm at Haus der Bildung in Bonn. In cooperation with UNRIC, VHS Bonn, and the UNO Flüchtlingshilfe e.V., the exhibition presents photos from the United Nations photo archive capturing moments in the lives of people who, for various reasons, have migrated during the last 70 years. Migration is a global phenomenon pervading human history. Wars, conflicts, climate change, demographics, instability, growing inequalities, the desire for a better life as well as unfulfilled needs of the labour market lead people to set off for another place. At present, the number of international migrants stands at 258 million, of which 68.5 million are refugees.

The exhibition also presents the work of UN agencies and programmes that have been supporting migrants and refugees in various countries since World War II such as UNHCR, the World Food Programme, UNICEF and the International Organization for Migration. According to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, "human mobility is one of the most paradoxical and misrepresented challenges of our time".

The exhibition will run from 19 March 2019 to 29 April 2019. We are inviting you to the inauguration tonight at 6.30 pm.
