Tsinghua University visits UNCCD to discuss future cooperation
A delegation of Tsinghua University led by Mr. He Jijiang, the Executive Deputy Director of its Institute on Energy Transformation and Social Development, visited the UNCCD secretariat to present China's successful experience in the implementation of innovative solar power-supported ecosystem restoration and livelihoods' improvement model.
UNCCD Deputy Executive Secretary Pradeep Monga met with Chinese scientists to discuss a cooperation agreement on renewable energy and ecosystem restoration. Monga highlighted the potential of community empowerment for sustainable development and stressed the importance of south-south cooperation through technology transfer, capacity building, joint studies and technical support for UNCCD-lead demonstration projects in Africa and Asia.
The agreement between UNCCD and Tsinghua University was proposed earlier this year. A joint internship programme between the two institutions is another cooperation initiative that is currently under discussion.
