    UNEA Event Spotlights Wildlife-friendly Energy Deployment

    UNEA Side Event Highlights Link Between Healthy Vultures and Healthy People

    “Healthy vultures, healthy people” is the title of a Green Room Event on vultures convened by BirdLife International on 25 May at 15.00 hrs in the margins of the second session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) taking place from 23 to 27 May in Nairobi. The UNEP Regional Office Africa, CMS, IUCN and several NGOs will participate in the event tohighlight the importance of vulture conservation to the delivery of the three pillars of sustainable development.

    The Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) and Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) committed themselves to advancing their cooperation to conserve migratory species of wild animals, by the UAE’s recent accession to CMS as its 123rd member state, and the extension of the long-standing financial and in-kind support of CMS Office - Abu Dhabi by EAD on behalf of the Government of the UAE.

    Today the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Dugong and Seagrass Conservation Project unveiled its new, interactive and informative website that includes information about the project, resources for dugong and seagrass conservation, as well as information for project partners. The website was launched at an event hosted by Zayed University in Abu Dhabi, where the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund (the MBZ Fund) publicly announced the GEF grant for the project.

    Actions to Protect Andean Flamingos Agreed in Cuzco

    On 26-27 April 2016 the First Meeting of Signatories of the High Andean Flamingos MOU took place in Cuzco (Peru). The meeting was attended by representatives of Bolivia, Chile and Peru, which are the three signatories of the MOU, and a number of observers including the Ramsar Convention Secretariat. Experts from France and Spain also came as representatives of the European Union to share their experience in the conservation and management of flamingo species.
