Release of TVET-strategy 2022-2029

On tuesday October 25, the UNESCO International Centre for Vocational Education and Training (UNESCO-UNEVOC) presented in Bonn its new strategy in the field of "Technical and Vocational Education and Training". Guests included Parliamentary State Secretary Jens Brandenburg of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Stefania Giannini, UNESCO Deputy Director-General for Education, and Borhene Chakroun, Head of UNESCO's TVET Division.

As a response to COVID-19, TVET learning has shifted heavily to distance and online implementation. This has put a heavy burden on both teachers and students. According to recent surveys conducted in Finland, TVET teachers and students alike feel stressed about the lack of social interaction. Teachers are concerned as they have not been able to reach some students for lengthy periods of time. On the other hand, teachers themselves need support as the digital leap has put a strain on all and the new reality demands new skills.

TVET Peer Support in Response to COVID-19

The global COVID-19 outbreak impacts not only our health, lives and economies, but also the labour market and education sector. Many countries have already implemented temporary measures to slow down the spread of the virus, which includes closing public institutions and schools. As of April 8, more than 1.5 billion children and youth were unable to attend schools and universities, with nationwide closures effective in 188 countries.

New Director of the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training

Ms. Soo-Hyang Choi was appointed as Director of the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training in January 2020. UNESCO-UNEVOC supports member states to ensure inclusive and equitable quality TVET, and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
