GWOPA-Conference on Water Operator Partnerships

Europe is home to thousands of water and sanitation operators with great potential to participate in WOPs as mentors. In recent years, a growing number of European public water utilities have begun to engage in Water Operators Partnerships (WOPs), sharing their expertise with peers in lower- and middle-income countries to improve their capacity to deliver safe and sustainable services to all.

UNEP/CMS plans fourth conference on Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Sharks

For the fourth time, the Signatories to the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Sharks will meet for their SHARKS MOS4 conference in Bonn from 28 February 2023 to 1 March 2023. The meeting is organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP/CMS). Delegates from the many Participating States, who must be accredited by their respective governments, will participate.

Regional dialogue addresses impacts of drought in Northern Mediterranean and Central and Eastern Europe

In recent years, water scarcity and drought have been seriously affecting the Northern Mediterranean and Central and Eastern Europe, with major impacts on the economy and welfare of people. To address the growing concern over the negative impacts of water scarcity, national focal points, country representatives and scientists gathered for an online Drought Dialogue on 13 July 2022.

4th Global WOPs Congress from 18 to 29 October

Water and sanitation service providers, connected through GWOPA, are sharing, and helping one another improve services every day through not-for-profit partnership. This year, GWOPA will hold its 4th Global WOPs Congress from 18 to 29 October in a global gathering of hundreds of public utilities and their partners such as financing institutions, NGOs, regulators, government, academia, and others.

GWOPA/UN-Habitat and BMZ/GIZ Webinar Series 2021

In 2020, GWOPA/UN-Habitat and BMZ/GIZ launched the webinar series Utilities Fight COVID-19. The series will now continue into 2021 showcasing best practices and lessons learned on utility climate action, circular development, and wastewater management. The GWOPA webinars aim to provide a platform to make the experiences and the concrete needs of utilities heard and seen, and to facilitate global exchange by bringing operators of different regions together.

French and Spanish edition: Workshop EU-WOP Programme

Through the EU-WOP Programme, 20 to 30 Water Operators’ Partnerships (WOPs) projects of 36 months’ duration will funded with between USD 250,000 and 450,000 USD.

Following the successful first workshop GWOPA will organise, similar session in French and Spanish.

GWOPA: Helping Water and Sanitation Service Providers Help one Another Reach the SDGs

The EU-WOP Programme, funded by the European Union and managed by UN-Habitat led GWOPA, leverages the demonstrated capacity of utilities to help one another reach the SDGs. 

What is the EU-WOP Programme?

The EU WOP Programme is a four-year initiative, led by UN-Habitat’s Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA) and funded by the European Commission DEVCO. Through the programme, between 250.000 and 450.000 USD is available for 20 to 30 Water Operators' Partnerships (WOPs) projects of 36 months' duration.
