The SDG Awards are Back with a Spotlight on Global Solidarity
The UN SDG Action Campaign is launching the third edition of the UN SDG Action Awards program, featuring a special Solidarity Award in response to the global health crisis.
The program identifies and celebrates outstanding initiatives from around the world that are accelerating action towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, whilst inspiring others by showing that transformative change for people and the planet is possible. Initiatives can be submitted or nominated until 25 May.
The current global health crisis is a sober reminder of the need for coordinated responses that leave no one behind. Taking climate action, providing access to healthcare and quality food, ensuring that all children have access to education, and protecting the most vulnerable is more important than ever for our joint global progress.
“We need hope, solidarity and we need creative and transformative solutions for the people and the planet. Now more than ever we must come together to keep up the momentum for coordinated action on the Goals. It is possibly the only way forward,” says Marina Ponti, Director of the UN SDG Action Campaign.
The 2020 UN SDG Action Awards program is seeking creative, scalable and transformative initiatives worldwide that mobilize large numbers of individuals and organizations to take action for the achievement of the Goals, inspire people to shift behaviors and policies and connect partners to increase progress on the Goals. People and organisations everywhere are encouraged to submit their SDG Actions to become one of the UN SDG Action Award winners.
SPECIAL CALL: SOLIDARITY AWARD
Inspired by the acts of kindness burgeoning everywhere in the midst of the COVID-19 global crisis, the program will this year feature a Special Solidarity Award. The Award will honour the most heartwarming and impactful acts of humanity that improve the lives of others, inspire resilience, and lift hopes in the ongoing health crisis.
This year’s winners will be honoured at the UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony at UN Headquarters in New York, and widely amplified throughout the year.
About the UN SDG Action Awards
The UN SDG Action Awards are organized by the UN SDG Action Campaign, a special inter-agency initiative of the UN Secretary General mandated to scale up, broaden and sustain the global movement of action for the SDGs. Since 2018, the UN SDG Action Awards have attracted more than 2750 applications from 142 countries. 64 initiatives, from transmedia series illustrating the impact of climate change, to youth theatre and poetry programmes addressing taboos on sexual and reproductive health or blockchain platforms connecting entrepreneurs from among the world’s poorest to clean up ocean plastic, have been honored for their contribution to accelerating action towards the Goals.
