Start of the UN Summer Academy 2019

Today, the eighth UN Summer Academy launched in the historic Haus Carstanjen on the UN Campus Bonn premise. This topic of this year’s edition is “The 2030 Agenda: Taking stock and looking ahead” with more than 100 selected participants and speakers from more than 40 nations. In his keynote address, Ibrahim Thiaw, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), stated that “it comes down to holistic thinking and rolling up our sleeves. It comes down to our vision and our efforts as UN staff and governments.” During the 5-day interactive programme, participants of the UN Summer Academy will deepen their knowledge of the core substance and processes related to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Coming from a broad range of institutions, representing national and local governments and international organisations, as well as civil society, academia and the private sector, participants have a unique opportunity to learn from each other and explore possibilities of building partnerships.
