A New Voice for the Indigenous People
Goal and success of the COP23-Negotiations in Bonn, November 2017, was to unite country representatives and indigenous people by the establishment of a Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples platform. The Executive Secretary of UN Climate Change Patricia Espinosa recognized the importance of indigenous know-how and said:
“Indigenous people must be part of the solution to climate change.”
The upcoming negotiations in April-May 2018 will be about the arrangement of functional modalities. Though there is still a lot of work to do until we can record a ultimate success, the negotiations already gained positive recognition: “it is a positive starting point” noted Mr Fremout Geert, representative of the European Union.
