Opening of the UN photo exhibition "People on the way - a global history"
Every two seconds, a human being is forced to flee. 68.5 million people are on the run.
With these words Arne Molfenter of the Regional Information Centre for Western Europe (UNRIC) opened the photo exhibition "People on the way - a global history" on behalf of UN Bonn. The exhibition shows photos from the UN archives in New York.
Many reasons force people to escape. Among them are wars, conflicts or the increasing effects of climate change. The United Nations warn about the unpredictable effects of increasing global problems such as climate change, which forces more and more people to flee every day.
Because of the close interdependence between climate change and migration, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has declared to make the fight against climate change one of his top priorities.
Peter Ruhenstroth-Bauer, National Director of the UNO-Flüchtlingshilfe pointed at the individual fates behind each photography. Having just returned from a trip to the refugee camp Al-Azraq in Jordan, he shared his experiences with the audience: "Some of the fates are almost unbearable".
Gabriele Tillmanns of the Adult Education Centre underlined how important it is to ontegrate refugees and migrants. She pointed at the wide range of language and integration courses offered at her institution. The photo exhibition "People on the way - a global history" will be open to the public in the Adult Education Centre in Bonn until 29 April.
